A Simple Truth

Today I got home from work and opened my computer to see that Mr Amazing Dude had left up a YouTube video. Naturally curious what I sparked his interest, I hit play. Almost immediately, I felt a let down and thought, "Oh no. Here we go again with another well-meaning Christian encouragement message that results in the opposite: worry, guilt, burdens, and just plain discouragement over not doing enough. Not being enough. Not caring enough."

I. Just. Want. It. To. STOP.

And then, to my amazement, the video went a direction I didn't expect it to go.

To find out, you'll have to watch it. Don't worry, it's SHORT. Insightful. With a touch of humor. I hope you'll be just as unexpectedly encouraged, happy and free in Jesus as I was afterwards. And if you don't identify with Jesus or think He and/or his followers are all about rules, fear, and guilt, maybe this will give you a second look.

Postscript:
I suddenly feel free to just write my stories and not worry about what happens next. I don't have expectations--I don't need to. Any writing I do ultimately is inspired by Him. It's His to do with as He pleases. Watching this reminded me of that--and of all the spiritual implications of being in Jesus. Like the fact I can't bear fruit--no matter how much I squeeze my eyes shut and try really hard. That only causes headaches and constipation, spiritually-speaking of course. Not excatly steller fruit. Only the Creator of Heaven and Earth can cause the fruit to spring forth. My only job in the deal is staying connected to Him. He does the hard work. And I think that's a pretty good trade if you ask me. :-)

  2. Hey, I found my scrapbook from AYLI and realized it was about 10 years ago this month when you told me, "Thomas is Orlando." What prophetic and wonderful words! He still is my Orlando and I still talk and talk while he listens and has great comebacks. :-)
