After Her Death

Synopsis:  When an Indiana farm girl stumbles across a haunting photo suggesting family ties to Iran, she must decide whether to risk losing her adopted family to discover the truth about her heritage.

Genre: Women's Fiction

SummaryMeghan Hardesty has always felt apart from her family. It goes deeper than being adopted--the only dark-haired person surrounded by blondes. But it's not until she becomes a single mom that Meghan starts to wonder about her biological heritage.

A doppelganger in an old photo she discovers raises more questions--especially since the photo was found in the house of a recently deceased Iranian immigrant with no known heirs. Her adopted father's antagonism to all things Middle Eastern does not help the situation. Meghan fears that one wrong move will result in entire estrangement from the only family she's ever known.

With the encouragement of a handsome coffee barista, the often unwanted prodding of her favorite coworker, and the nosiness of a tenacious investigative reporter, Meghan finds the courage to uncover her rich, unexpected past, even if it risks unintended consequences for her future.

Lies aren’t becoming, my mom loves to say.
I must be an ugly person then.

My whole life, I’ve lied to myself.
Wore a brave face.
Clung to my family--regardless.

Just to belong.
